The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) has appointed Georgetown’s [Kim Daniels](https://catholicsocialthought.georgetown.edu/people/kim-daniels-j-d) to serve as a consultant to its new task force on artificial intelligence, the USCCB [announced](https://www.usccb.org/news/2026/members-and-consultants-us-bishops-task-force-artificial-intelligence-announced) on Oct. 16.
Inspired by Pope Leo XIV’s “[Magnifica Humanitas](https://www.vatican.va/content/leo-xiv/en/encyclicals/documents/20260515-magnifica-humanitas.html),” his first papal encyclical, the task force aims to help American Church leaders understand AI’s opportunities and risks across education, governance and human welfare, among other key areas.
Daniels is the director of the [Initiative on Catholic Social Thought and Public Life](https://catholicsocialthought.georgetown.edu/). She previously served in the Vatican Dicastery for Communication, the Church’s communications body, and participated in the Synod on Synodality, a global gathering of Church leaders that concluded in 2024.
Last month, Daniels moderated the panel, “[AI, Catholic Social Teaching, and Pope Leo’s Invitation to Dialogue with the World](https://catholicsocialthought.georgetown.edu/events/ai-catholic-social-teaching-and-pope-leo-s-invitation-to-dialogue-with-the-world),” at Georgetown, where experts discussed how to preserve human dignity in the AI era, build a fair digital economy and drive meaningful conversations around tech policy.
Daniels said she will help the task force “emphasize that AI must serve human dignity and the common good,” drawing on the encyclical’s central message.
“I am honored to serve as a consultant to this task force helping to promote Pope Leo’s vision for a ‘social, economic and political order’ that allows ‘everyone – particularly the weakest – to live a truly dignified life, without leaving anyone behind’,” said Daniels, quoting the encyclical.
As part of its broader mission, the task force plans to engage with AI labs, research groups and other institutions. Daniels looks forward to this work.
“I’m grateful that we can partner with the U.S. bishops as they engage in this vital work,” said Daniels.

How this page is built
Goose Pod turns cited reporting into a public episode summary first, then pairs that summary with audio playback so listeners can check the source material before they decide how deeply to engage.
The goal is to make this page useful as a news landing page first, while still giving listeners transcript access, related episodes, and direct links back to the original publishers.
