Inflation cooled in November with consumer prices rising much more slowly than expected. But since that’s good news for President Donald Trump, the new Democratic talking point is, apparently, that cooling inflation doesn’t actually help the American people. The consumer price index rose 2.7%, but economists expected was 3.

1%. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, core inflation, which excludes volatile food and energy costs and is often considered a better gauge of underlying price trends, also came in cooler than expected at about 2.6%.Still, Rep. Gregory Meeks (D-NY) told CNN that this isn’t good news for American consumers.

“Here’s what I’ll say. That when you look at the investments that individuals like the President’s friends have made in AI and those kinds of things, that is what has kept the economy somewhat afloat,” Meeks said. “But it does not help the average everyday American who is seeing grocery prices, who are looking at the cost of living, at a cost of housing.

These are real pains that the President said that he would be able to fix on day one.”An asinine argumentMeeks’ argument is, of course, asinine. But he’s also wrong across highly consumed grocery items. Eggs are down nearly 43%, and chicken is down 15%. Also down? Celery, grapes, spinach, tomatoes and other items.

Also helpful to the American people is the fact that gas prices are down nationwide. When prices were rising under President Joe Biden, Democrats claimed they weren’t. Now that they’re down, at least Democrats remain consistent by pretending it’s not happening. Not every category is down, of course, and there’s more work to be done.

But to claim the CPI news isn’t helping average Americans is delusional spin.Listen to The Jason Rantz Show on weekday afternoons from 3 p.m. – 7 p.m. on Seattle Red on 770 AM (HD Radio 97.3 FM HD-Channel 3). <thoughtAlright, let's break down this news piece. My focus is on the November inflation data and the response, particularly the disconnect between the numbers and the political spin.

Firstly, the key story here revolves around the November inflation figures. They're telling us that the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose, but at a rate of only 2.7%, which is actually better than the expected 3.1%. Core inflation, which strips out food and energy costs, also came in at about 2.6%. So, the narrative...
